SAN FRANCISCO, CA. — Biometrics Nutrition and Fitness announced a groundbreaking new application designed to enhance the ability of the fitness industry to support the needs of the nation in addressing excess weight and obesity.

At a time when excess weight and obesity have reached epidemic levels in the U.S. and worldwide, and nine out of ten people state the reason they join a fitness facility is to lose weight and tone up, Biometrics has teamed up with Stayhealthy to create a unique solution that allows the industry to respond to these demands in a powerful new way.

In this application, Biometrics has created a highly automated and personalized solution that enables the fitness industry to develop a far more precise means of helping their members attain their health and fitness goals. Biometrics chose Stayhealthy based on their advanced, clinically proven technology for measuring an individual's body composition and a precise real time measurement device for tracking individual calorie burn. By combining Stayhealthy's proprietary technology with the industry leading nutrition and fitness tools available from Biometrics, this integrated solution creates new revenue opportunities for the industry, while creating a truly effective solution for the member.

The Biometrics application creates a solution that starts with a precise measure of an individual's percent body fat and lean muscle mass. From this reading, targets are set for the individual to reach either a healthy level, or a "fit" level of body composition depending on their personal objectives. Calorie requirements are automatically defined and a nutrition and meal plan can then be configured to the individual's specific needs and tastes. An activity or exercise program will also be added to the full solution this summer. Based on Biometrics award winning "My Exercise Plan" web-based program an activity plan can be configured to the user's unique needs and health conditions – such as general health, diabetes, heart condition, etc. Alternatively, a fitness trainer may integrate their own program into the application for further customization. Finally, ongoing performance can be managed and monitored via the Stayhealthy Calorie Tracker by the individual as well as remotely by their trainer. Over time, changes in body composition can be monitored and provided to the member to demonstrate their tangible progress toward creating a truly healthier body.

Dr. Robert Karch, Chairman of Biometrics, said "this revolutionary application provides the fitness industry with a solution that enhances the relationship of the fitness trainer, or fitness center with their members, creates new revenues for the industry and perhaps most importantly, gives members the total approach they need to achieving permanent and sustainable health and fitness results.

"The first step to addressing individual health and fitness is understanding the current status of the individual's body composition:, said John Collins, CEO of Stayhealthy. "Weight" has generally been viewed as the key measure of health and fitness. Arbitrary goals have been routinely set for individuals, and in many cases they are unrealistic and in some cases may actually be "unhealthy". Body composition is the true measure of health and fitness. The goal for the individual should be to achieve a healthy ratio of lean muscle mass to body fat.

Demonstrations of the new application can be seen at the Biometrics Exhibit at IHRSA in booth 313. The application will be commercially available starting May 1, 2009.
